- CAUTION: This fireproof mat is not suitable for use on fire pits or stoves that have heating sources that will be in direct contact with the mat's surface. The fireproof mat should be at least 1 inch from the heat source. Direct contact will negate the mat's effectiveness.
It doesn't take much heat to damage several surfaces. Grass can easily wither even with mild heat, wood can warp, while composite decking either reflects or absorbs heat. But did you know that it only takes about 500°F for a concrete slab to incur noticeable heat damage? Metal fire pits can achieve temperatures up to 800°F, radiating up to 400°F of heat towards the floor or deck. If you're using composite decking, it will be melted by the time the fire pit reaches maximum temperature. A fireproof mat serves as a radiant thermal barrier that reflects up to 95% of radiant heat. This ensures that the mat and the surface where it rests don't absorb heat from the fire pit. In fact, the mat remains at body temperature while under the fire pit! This is possible through the aluminizing process used on both sides of the fireproof mat. It works similarly to thermal aluminum insulation panels. But unlike insulation panels, these fireproof mats can withstand very high temperatures - up to 1300°F! There are several things to take note of in order to ensure that the mat functions efficiently. First, ensure that the mat is the right size for your fire pit. The fireproof mat will work best on fire pits with circular bases that are at least an inch smaller than the mat's 24-inch or 36-inch diameter and all four feet of the fire pit's stand should rest within the mat's circumference. Also, the fire pit's bottom should not rest directly on the mat. The mat is designed to reflect radiant heat, not direct heat. Besides, the fire pit's bottom can exceed the fireproof mat's rated temperature. Aside from being heat and fireproof, this mat is also weatherproof.
