The 2023 1 oz Canadian Fine Silver Elizabeth II Maple Leaf Coin BU is stunning in .9999 fine silver. Everyone knows the Canadian Maple Leaf Coins are a great coin in gold but silver has been massively popular for the Canadian Mint. One look at this coin and you know why.

On the obverse of the coin is Canadian artist Susanna Blunt’s Queen Elizabeth II. Traditionally, this coin has featured the queen at different times in her life and this one shows her at age 79. The queen is facing right in this portrait and she is wearing a simple dress, a pearl necklace, and pearl earrings. She looks as though she is entertaining guests or something more casual but yet has a stately, confident look about her. On her right shoulder is ‘SB’ for the artist’s initials. Above the portrait is ‘Elizabeth II’. Below the queen is ‘5 DOLLARS 2023’.

The coin’s reverse side has Walter Ott’s sugar maple design. This design is very realistic with a lot of detail. The sugar maple leaf is an emblem that is featured all over Canada. It has become an icon for Canada used on its flag, its military, and even its money. The sugar maple leaf is of historical significance. The aboriginal people used the trees as an important food source while the European settlers discovered it made a convenient way to produce sugar. ‘Canada’ is above the leaf and ‘9999’, a reference to purity, is to the right and left of the leaf. Below the leaf is ‘FINE SILVER’ and ‘1 OZ ARGENT PUR’. Also below the leaf is a micro-lasered maple leaf that has a number ‘22’ that is only viewable under a microscope.

The Royal Canadian Mint is widely regarded as an expert in making great coins. You only have to see the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin and its intricate design and luster to know that they do incredible work. The mint was founded in 1908 but it wasn’t until they added their own refinery in 1911 that they had full control over the entire coin minting process. They now could make premium quality coins. By 1969 they were making .999 fine gold bars. In 1982 they showed what they really could do by producing a .9999 fine gold bullion coin, the first in the world. They later set a record for producing a 99.9999% fine gold 100kg coin worth one million dollars. They now make high-quality coins of all different metals.
